2019 Eastern US YHEC Regional Event update

posted Jun 20, 2019, 9:52 AM by Richard Wilkinson

The 2019 Eastern US YHEC Regional Event is fast approaching. If you are interested in going but haven't registered yet there is still time even though the June 15th deadline has passed. If you or your group is still interested please email: YHEC@SullivansSharpshooters.org so we can expedite the process.

Here are a few more updates. Please remember this is a work in progress so some things may change. Also don't forget to check out previous posts on our "News" page with some essential information.

There will be a couple of different food vendors, one of which we used for our NY State YHEC Event on June 1st. The price of meals is not included in the registration fee. You are free to arrange for your own meals if you like. We have tried to arrange for a couple of different food vendors so there is something for everyone. Please support them with your purchases if you can.

We will have bottled water and sports drinks available at each venue similar to YHEC Nationals. You are free to bring coolers and your own beverages. Please note that no alcoholic beverages will be sold, possessed or consumed at event locations during the competition.

Each of the eight YHEC events will be present and conducted in accordance with the latest National YHEC rules, though as always some changes may need to be made. If so, this will be communicated to participants and coaches. Muzzleloader and 22 disciplines will use steel knockdown targets just like those used at Nationals. Archery will be 3D targets. Shotgun will be a sporting clays course with the number of shots yet to be determined. The number of shots at Muzzleloader has also yet to be determined. We are trying to make sure we have enough time to complete each event based on the number of participants. A schedule with team assignments and event rotations won't be completed until a few days before the event.

Checks for registration fees should be made out to: NY YHEC Committee, inc   We can also accept credit cards, please see the registration form for details.

This event will be the first time that I know of that any group has attempted to mirror YHEC Nationals. We hope everything will run smoothly but know that there will be some unanticipated issues and we may need your assistance and understanding. We hope that all attending will keep this in mind and bear with us as we try to make it run smoothly. With YHEC Nationals being an uncertainty we hope this event can be a suitable addition to the YHEC program and that it can continue until no longer needed. This is an NRA YHEC sanctioned event.

Please help keep the spirit of YHEC strong with your support of local, state, and regional YHEC programs.

Further information will be posted to our website: WWW.SullivansSharpshooters.org

Sullivan's Sharpshooters attend the 2019 Maryland State YHEC Event

posted Jun 20, 2019, 9:35 AM by Richard Wilkinson

We would like to thank the Maryland YHEC organization for inviting us to attend. Our kids, coach, and parents had a good time and the YHEC spirit was visible everywhere. We would like to thank the Potomac Fish and Game Club for being a YHEC supporter and would especially like to thank the volunteers who made the event possible.

Sullivan's Sharpshooters took 5 juniors and 1 senior to the 2019 Maryland State YHEC Event. We had several place winners and were the 2nd place junior team.

Results from the 2019 NY State YHEC Event

posted Jun 7, 2019, 9:56 AM by Richard Wilkinson

First off, a big thank you to our supporters that made this event possible; the NRA, Friends of the NRA, Chemung Rod and Gun Club, Sam's Club, and PDR Catering of Horseheads. Perhaps most importantly is all the persons who volunteered their time and energy to make this event possible. Without them this event could not have happened. Participants can also thank their family and coaches for the support they gave to make it possible for them to participate in the YHEC program.

I hope everyone who attended enjoyed the day. There were a few ( I hope) minor complications. We did run later than I would have wished, primarily due to changing the written test to the last thing, when normally it is done first. These would normally be scored while the participants were completing the outdoor events. This was done because we were expecting possible heavy rain and thunderstorms in the early afternoon which could have affected completing the outdoor events.

I have added PDF copies of the individual scores for both Seniors and Juniors to the RESOURCES page. If you are trying to view or download these and can't get it to work please email me an I would be happy to send them to you.

2019 NY State YHEC Event details

posted May 28, 2019, 9:45 AM by Richard Wilkinson

Upon arrival coaches should come to the scoring table located in the upper clubhouse to pick up their score books, meal tickets, schedules, and any other materials.

A brief coaches meeting will be held at 7:45am to address any questions or issues. If you think of any before then please email us.

At 8am we will have a meeting with all participants, coaches, volunteers and interested parties out side the upper clubhouse near the flagpole.

We anticipate starting the written Hunter Responsibility Exam at 8:30am consisting of approximately 50 questions. As soon as all participants have finished we will start the individual events.

This year we will have a caterer providing meals to all. This was a last minute change due to logistics so please bear with us. We reached an agreement with them to provide a couple fixed price meal options though they may offer more options for a higher price.

We will be using the latest YHEC Nationals Rule Book as guide, though there may be changes or modifications which will be explained at each event location. We will have shotgun and 22 ammunition available at no cost for participants to use if desired, otherwise participants may use their own, consistent with YHEC Nationals Rules.

Volunteers are at a premium this year though we hope to have enough, but please be prepared to assist if necessary to make this event a success. Keep the YHEC spirit.

Event Coordinators are responsible for the operations and conduct of their event. Question should be addressed to them before the event starts or immediately as they arise. SAFETY is our first consideration

I know there may be circumstances or issues that arise that we did not foresee. Please bring any to the attention of the Event Coordinator Richard Wilkinson. We hope that they will be few and minor.

This event will take place rain or shine so please be prepared. Good luck to all who will participate.
